This comic is a collaboration between CeKTER and the Temple University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Community Living and Participation of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities (ACL grant #’s 90RTCP0001 & # 90RT5021). It is based on work by Gretchen Snethen, PhD, CTRS, and colleagues.

The U.S. Deaf community is a sociolinguistic minority group of at least 500,000 individuals who communicate using American Sign Language (ASL).1 ASL is fully distinct from English – i.e., it is not “English on the hands.” ASL is a natural, formal language with its own syntax, morphology, and structure.

This course explains what is required in assisting students with disabilities with employment, including how research-based practices can help you. The module and its resources are designed to take users about an hour to complete.

The Center on Knowledge Translation for Employment Research (KTER Center) at the American Institutes for Research, which is funded by the National Institute for Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, tested a knowledge broker model in vocational rehabilitation (VR) agency settings.

This course explains adult learning principles. The KTER Center developed it for VR supervisors participating in its knowledge brokering study. The goal of the information was to help them pass on knowledge, from another module describing research-based strategies for better serving their clients, to the VR counselors they supervise.

This course reviews the basics about Autism Spectrum Disorder, (ASD) and review research-based practices VR counselors can use to improve their clients' employment outcomes. The module and its resources are designed to take users about an hour to complete.

The purpose of this four-part training is to learn more about communicating with businesses to develop partnerships with vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies.

About the webcast: Success in research funding and research more generally is often realized through the effective dissemination of research findings to the appropriate audiences in order that they may benefit in some way.

The KTER Center developed two scoping reviews related to pre-employment transition services for students with disabilities, and job-related social communication skills of adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The research these reviews identified can inform vocational rehabilitation (VR) services to help clients succeed in getting jobs and keeping them.
